MAKOplasty® Total Hip Replacement is a novel surgical alternative for patients with arthritis in the hip. In this procedure, a Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System (RIO®) assists the surgeon in aligning and positioning implants more precisely. This potentially can reduce postoperative leg-length inequality and provide a more natural feel with the new components.
A candidate for MAKOplasty® Total Hip Replacement may experience the following:
Accurate placement and alignment of the hip implant is crucial in hip replacement surgery. MAKOplasty® Total Hip Replacement requires the patient to obtain a 3-D CT-scan of the patient’s hip to generate a 3-D virtual model of their pelvis and femur 1-2 weeks prior to date of scheduled surgery. This aids the surgeon in planning your surgery and placement of implants before you enter the operating room.
During surgery, the RIO® software provides dynamic information to enhance accuracy of the procedure. Such real-time information and feedback intra-operatively assists the surgeon in precise placement of the implant, which can be difficult to achieve with traditional surgical techniques.
The benefits of MAKOplasty® Total Hip Replacement include:
